The sustainable bank Triodos will move into Quatuor, one of Brussels greenest buildings

19 December 2022
Triodos will be moving to an architecturally and environmentally prestigious office building, the Quatuor, located in the Gare du Nord district. The 170 employees will occupy 2,150 m² from January 2024. The contract with the owner Befimmo has just been signed.

Triodos Bank, a pioneer in sustainable finance for more than 40 years, will be moving its Belgian headquarters into the Quatuor building, one of the first office buildings in Brussels to receive BREEAM OUTSTANDING certification, the highest rating for design. BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is the most widely used method for assessing the environmental performance of a building. It takes into account the entire life cycle of buildings, from construction to end of life, with a particular focus on the quality of life offered to its occupants.

EMPLOYEES INVOLVED IN THIS CHOICE

From 1 January 2024 Triodos will occupy 2,150 m² on two floors, connected by a majestic staircase to increase internal communication, within Tower A and will have access to one of the most beautiful terraces in the complex. Triodos employees were involved in the search and evaluation of a new workplace. This building will offer them pleasant working spaces that are accessible by public transport. It will also lend itself perfectly to hybrid working, with spaces for both quiet work and meetings between colleagues. The bank will also welcome its clients.

PASSIVE BUILDING AND GREEN OASIS

The Quatuor project has been designed to be passive and to comply with the highest standards of innovation and environmental performance. Equipped with advanced technologies, the complex comprises four buildings connected to each other by a vast interior garden, open to the public and designed as an oasis of greenery and calm.

Ideally located near the North Station and the centre of Brussels, close to public transport, the complex has 300 bicycle parking spaces. In terms of energy, 1,400 solar panels have been installed to produce 400,000 kWh/year. The Quatuor is equipped with rainwater recycling systems, efficient insulation and geothermal heating and cooling systems.

CARBON NEUTRALITY

This move fits in perfectly with Triodos net zero's objective: we want to achieve carbon neutrality as soon as possible and by 2035 at the latest. To achieve this, Triodos is acting across its entire value chain, i.e. in its internal operations as well as in its credits and investments. - Thomas Van Craen, Director of Triodos Bank Belgium.

We are very proud to welcome Triodos Bank to the Quartet. Like us, the bank is committed to environmental qualities. It places quality of life and people at the heart of its concerns. Quatuor, an emblematic development of Befimmo's expertise, provides the answer to these key concerns. This new transaction reflects the attractiveness of our buildings and the confidence of our tenants, in a particularly demanding context, both in terms of environmental and technical quality, and in terms of the ability to take into account new trends in the organisation and evolution of hybrid work. - Bart Simaey, Senior Contract Manager at Befimmo.
